Having read the first book of the series, I expected nothing less than the charming Rebecca Bloomwood raising from the lovely UK in the movie. I was rudely awakened by the fact that they had thrown her into a New York setting (which I’m starting to find pretty exposed in pop culture these days), though Isla Fisher and Krysten Ritter surely sparked my interest.
I appreciated the humour (but the best parts were exposed in the trailer I would say), the cringe-worthy moments, and the absolutely outlandish outfits (my admiration for the costumers and their ability to create a mishmash of designer mayhem on Rebecca from scene to scene knows no bounds). I suppose sitting 10 feet from the screen surrounded by bubbly shopaholics themselves didn’t hurt my enthusiasm either (hey, I’m one of them). Thank you for the pre-screeening opportunity - nothing can boost my excitement more than seeing it two days before the masses (and those were two glorious days).
Overall I’d give it 3 salty shakers out of 5 - entertaining, well-outfitted, but wasn’t the story that I had come to love. I still love you girl-in-the-green-scarf.
